American lands are named in honor of racists, slave owners, and/or confederates. Millions of Black Americans are forced to see the names of enslavers on their birth certificate and various forms of identification included within their address. Local departments providing government services within the jurisdiction of these locations bear the same infamous names, including law enforcement agencies. Black Americans regularly face police officers with badges and armored vehicles embossed in honor of repugnant historical figures. In addition, hundreds of American locations have overtly racist naming (for example: Dead Negro Draw, TX). This is cruel, traumatic, humiliating, and exacerbates ongoing racial injustices committed against Black men and women daily in the United States of America.
